BTEC Performing Arts

Performing Arts BTEC is a subject that is perfect for students that want to explore what the performing arts industry has to offer. This is a practical, coursework related course. You will complete projects from given scenarios which are taken from industry situations. You will explore the business side of working in a Performing Arts environment and learn how to budget and fund projects which you will run. The practical elements involve performances in your strongest discipline and can be tailored to each individual student.

 How is the course assessed?

The Edexcel BTEC Level 1/Level 2 First Award in Performing Arts is taught over 120 guided learning hours (GLH). It has core and optional specialist units. There is no exam in the BTEC course which enables pupils to focus on their coursework and practical units.

Learners must complete the two core units and a choice of an optional specialist unit to reach a total of 120 GLH.

What can this course prepare you for?

This course will prepare you for any employment in the Performing Arts industry, whether it is behind the scenes in stage management, front of house in the box office or on the stage. Success in this qualification will enable you to join BTEC Level 3 courses at our Sixth Form.

Enrichment Opportunities

As part of the course it is important for the students to gain as much exposure as possible to experience all areas that the industry has to offer. Locally we arrange visits and performances at provisions such as The Marlowe theatre and Gulbenkian theatre to allow students to be a part of real life performances either on the management side or performance side. Your child will also get the opportunity to travel further afield to London and the West End. Pupils will be encouraged to network at events and productions opening the opportunities for work experience in years 9-10 if they so wish.
