The P.E. Department currently consists of 5 teachers. The school has a sports hall, gymnasium, fitness room, tennis courts and extensive playing fields. The department offers a range of extra-curricular activities and competes in a number of district and county competitions.

Our aims as a department are:
• To be committed to providing high quality PE in a fun manner so that students learn and achieve to the best of their ability
• To provide students of all abilities with the teaching and coaching that individuals require in a safe and enjoyable setting
• To teach students to play within the ‘spirit’ of the game and learn how to accept victory and defeat with the same dignity
• To fully participate in extra-curricular activities
• To lead a healthy lifestyle both within school and outside and understand why this is important
• To prepare students to enjoy a long involvement in sport after they leave the school

Key Stage 3
At KS3 students are taught in either a single gender group or a mixed gender group to allow all students to make progress at their own pace. Students will participate in fitness,  football, netball, rugby, basketball, dance, gymnastics, rounders, cricket and athletics. Students participate in 4 lessons per fortnight.

Key Stage 4
All students will also participate in Core PE for 3 hours per fortnight. There are different pathways on offer which allow students to specialise in specific sports (team or individual) as well as more alternative activities such as fitness, dance, yoga,  trampolining and cheerleading.

Students can opt to study GCSE PE (AQA).  Assessment in GCSE PE is 60 practical and 40% examination and is very suitable for those students talented in a number of sports.

BTEC Sport

BTEC Sport is mostly coursework with one external assessment. Students study four units: fitness testing, development of a fitness programme, practical sport and sports nutrition.

Key Stage 5
At KS5 students can study the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sport. This is also a very popular course. Students study 12 units over the two years and the course is the equivalent of two A-levels.

Extra-Curricular Activities
We offer an extensive range of extra-curricular opportunities at lunch times and after school.  Students compete in football, rugby, basketball, netball, athletics and cricket against other schools within the district.  We have launched a Dance Academy this year providing students with the opportunity to audition and perform at various events during the year.  There are also opportunities to improve your fitness levels in our weights room or in circuit training, as well as cheerleading, gymnastics and trampoline clubs.
